Calibre: 9’’’ circular movement signed European Clock and Watch Co. Inc., damascened Côtes de Genève decoration, 18 jewels, bi-metallic balance with timing and poising screws, 8 adjustments, Breguet hairspring

Case: 18k yellow gold square case, chamfered bezel, bullet-form lugs, gold screw-set lug bars, case back secured by four screws to sides, beaded cabochon sapphire-set crown, inside case back signed European Watch and Clock Co. Inc. France

Case number: inside case back hand stamped 16’156, 70’351, case back exterior numbered 23’934, 16’156, additional rubbed number possibly 1’898 and with French eagle’s head assay mark

Closure: brown unsigned leather strap and 18k gold deployant buckle stamped twice with French eagle’s head assay mark, signed Cartier and marked 18k

The Obus takes its name from the French word for “shell” and was, according to legend, inspired by the shape of artillery shells. Introduced in 1923, the model features distinctive rounded, bullet-shaped lugs that elegantly integrate the wrist strap with the watch case. As one of the earliest examples of “fancy” lugs in wristwatch design, the Obus has remained a popular model over the decades. Its periodic re-releases reflect subtle adaptations to contemporary tastes while preserving its core design elements.
