One of Cartier’s most instantly recognisable and famous models, the Ceinture was first introduced in 1927. The model demonstrated the Maison’s ability to reinterpret influences from diverse disciplines – fashion, architecture, and art – into enduring designs that reflected the evolving tastes of the period. While the watch takes inspiration from the form of a belt buckle, a playful nod to the world of fashion, its execution reflects the growing dominance of Art Deco geometry in Cartier’s design language. This marked a significant departure from the fluid, organic lines of Art Nouveau towards the bold, structured elegance that defined the 1920s and 1930s.
