In recent years, independent watchmaking has risen to the forefront of desirability in the entire industry, with F.P. Joune spearheading the movement. His highly eccentric design philosophies and relentless pursuit of horological refinement combine to result in distinct and recognisable timepieces containing technologies that are often unique to his hand. The Répétition Souveraine is a prime example of this.

To F.P. Journe, if something is worth doing, it is worth doing all the way. This philosophy is present and visible in all of his designs. Indeed, it is the reason why he chooses to case all of his repeater and sonnerie wristwatches in stainless steel, as steel is the least dense of all traditional case metals and is thus the best transmitter of sound. He also pioneered the now signature “flat-head hammer and gong” repeater construction, with the hammers stacked on top of each other and closer to the dial side, again to aid in sound quality. Admirably, despite these technologies, the Répétition Souveraine still claimed the record for the thinnest minute repeating wristwatch in the world at the time of its release in 2008.

The present Répétition Souveraine is further elevated from the base configuration. Instead of the standard white stamped dial, the present watch contains a breathtaking transparent dial made of sapphire crystal allowing the minute repeating mechanism to be fully visible. Another inclusion which is sure to excite collectors is the original and exceedingly rare stainless steel bracelet fitted to the watch. All of these elements combine to make this lot unmissable to all discerning collectors.
