A George II gilt and carved pine X-frame stool

circa 1735-40, the design attributed William Kent and executed by Henry Williams


the later cut-velvet squab cushion on a later upholstered removeable seat frame with cut-velvet cover and brocaded passementerie over mahogany rails, the scrolling X-frame support with imbricated channels centred with a stylised shell above an acanthus clasp and entrelac motif, the legs with acanthus knees terminating on lion paw feet, the returns with swags of oak leaves, with a turned central stretcher

44cm. high (without squab cushion), 62cm. wide, 49cm. deep; 17¼in., 24½in., 19 1/4in.
