Description
Purpurite
Minas Gerais, Brazil
9⅜ x 7⅝ x 2¾ inches (23.7 x 19.3 x 7 cm), 12 inches (30.5 cm) tall on custom stand. 10 pounds (4.54 kg).
Purpurite is a rare and stunning purple-violet mineral, found originally in 1905 in Faires Mine, North Carolina. This specimen, from the famed mineral region of Minas Gerais, Brazil, is unusually large and dramatic on both sides. As purpurite is a rather delicate mineral, it is not often made into jewelry, and thus this style of preparation and display is one of the only ways to enjoy this uncommonly vibrant mineral species.
