 A Louis XIV ebony, walnut and turtleshell boulle religeuse, Baltazar Martinot, Paris, circa 1700


8-inch twelve-piece enamel cartouche dial above a finely cast and chased mount centred by an enamel plaque signed Baltazar Martinot, A Paris, all on a matted ground, the movement with five vase-turned pillars, verge escapement with cycloidal cheeks, numbered external locking plate striking on a top-mounted bell, the rectangular case with domed top surmounted by a seated winged cherub and flambeau finials above foliate and floral frieze frets, canted corners, the moulded base with a lambrequin to the front, the whole veneered in panels of red shell finely inlaid and engraved with fruiting vines and folate scrolls, on brass bun feet
