A brass horizontal table clock with alarm, Johan Gottfried Kriedel, German, dated 1760


3-inch silvered champlevé dial with central alarm disc and signed Ledeirk, London, the movement with verge escapement and three-arm plain brass balance, pierced and engraved silvered balance cock, chain fusee for the going train and standing barrel for the strike, an engraved hammer stiking on a bell, signed on the backplate as the dial and dated 1760, the hexagonal case with engraved moulding around the top, glazed side windows and winged paw feet

Johan Gottfried Kriedel, a German clockmaker from Bautzen in eastern Germany, is known to have signed some of his clocks using his name in reverse, Ledeirk. He also spuriously used London as the location in attempt to sell his clocks as English or to sell them to the English market.
