Maria reflected on her glamorous wardrobe, commenting "When I became Mrs. Nat King Cole in 1948, I put my singing career aside, but resumed it after his death for a very brief period. Nonetheless, during the 17 years we were married, there were always occasions, especially at his nightclub openings to wear an exciting new gown or dinner dress." She was known for her sophisticated style and elegance, and is featured in 'Vintage Black Glamour' by Nichelle Gainer.
