Maria reflected on her glamorous wardrobe, commenting "When I became Mrs. Nat King Cole in 1948, I put my singing career aside, but resumed it after his death for a very brief period. Nonetheless, during the 17 years we were married, there were always occasions, especially at his nightclub openings to wear an exciting new gown or dinner dress."
