Led by the superstar tandem of Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant, the Los Angeles Lakers finished the 2001 NBA season with a 56-26 record and earned the 2nd seed in the Western Conference.
In the playoffs, the Lakers swept the Portland Trail Blazers, Sacramento Kings, and San Antonio Spurs to reach the NBA Finals. They defeated the Philadelphia 76ers in a gentleman’s sweep in five games in the Finals to win the franchise’s second consecutive championship.
The Lakers are tied with the Boston Celtics for the most championships by a franchise in NBA history with 17.
