The reference 5146 was launched in 2005 in yellow and white gold, with later platinum and pink gold versions added to the collection. It remains in production today and is available in different metals with multiple dial variations. This reference truly represents classic design and elegance, while boasting an intriguing annual calendar function. In fact it was Patek Philippe who was the first brand to offer the annual calendar complication in 1996, when the reference 5035 was introduced with the new calibre 315/198. The new movement enabled the calendar to account for shorter months and therefore it needed to be set only once a year. This innovation really helped to close the gap between the highly complicated perpetual calendars and the simpler date or triple calendar watches. The original reference 5035 was eventually transformed into the slightly larger reference 5146, such as the present lot, and the annual calendar function itself also found its way into other collections such as the Nautilus.
The present lot is an early version dating back to 2006 and is offered complete with its Certificate of Origin and presentation case.
