Description

Property from the Collection of Elsie and Philip Sang

Eisenhower, Mamie Doud, and Dwight D. Eisenhower

Typed letters signed ("Mamie Doud Eisenhower"; "Dwight D. Eisenhower"), to Mr. and Mrs. Philip Sang

The first letter, signed by the First Lady, one page (218 x 150 mm) on gold-embossed White House letterhead, Denver, Colorado, 30 September 1955. The second, signed by the President, one page (215 x 165 mm) on blue-embossed White House letterhead, Washington, 22 October 1956. The two letters matted, glazed, and framed with photograph portraits of the First Lady (signed) and the President, the frame double-glazed with the original envelope to the President's letter on the reverse.

Both letters thank the Sangs for enrolling Ike in the Civil War Book Club—although the President "confess[es] that I have not found the time to read each of this year' selections. …"
