Sonia Delaunay is regarded as one of the most remarkable and diverse artists of the twentieth century. Curator and Delaunay leading authority, Waleria Dorogova comments: "This ensemble is emblematic of the union of abstract art and fashion, as well as the dedication to craftsmanship that the universal artist Sonia Delaunay embodied. It features a vibrant Orphist composition that evokes the visual quality of a painted canvas. The set is one of the exceedingly rare surviving designs from Delaunay’s couture workshop, where only a small number of meticulously crafted, innovative avant-garde fashions were produced, between 1923 and 1933, as individual bespoke pieces for a clientele that was typically associated with the social circle of Sonia and Robert Delaunay.”

Delaunay pieces are rarely labeled, with only one known labelled piece in existence- a necktie.
