This collection draws upon three major themes of McQueen’s work: dark drama, the defiant, persecuted female and his family history. His ancestor Elizabeth Howe was hanged during the Salem Witch Trials of 1692 - being falsely accused of practicing witchcraft. This collection, dedicated to her, showed designs which drew upon these themes and reflected a sombre and gothic tone. This gown was one of the stand-out looks from the collection, with McQueen's woman emerging with glimmer of defiance and hope from the darkness.
