DE BEZE. Alphabetum graecum & hebraicum [edited by Chevalier]. Geneva: Paul Estienne, 1600, woodcut device on title-page, upper margin cut close

2 works in one volume, 8vo (160 x 95mm.), modern speckled calf

Rodolphe Chevalier was a Huguenot exile in England who returned to the Continent on the accession of Mary; he taught Hebrew at Cambridge, Geneva and Strassburg. This is the first edition of his short work on the Hebrew alphabet, which includes the Ten Commandments with an interlinear Latin translation, and it is the first publication by Henri Estienne using Hebrew type.

In this copy, the imprint GENEVAE has been hand-stamped onto the correct place on the title-pages.
