Chancery folio (314 x 217mm.), 154 leaves (of 156, without initial and final blanks), [a10 b–d8 e6 f–h8 i10 k–m8 n10 o–t8], Latin text with Greek quotations, roman type, modern half blue morocco, numerous early annotations, first leaf slightly soiled with small tear at head of gutter, some wormholes towards end, occasional light staining
A TALL COPY OF THE FIRST EDITION, RARE. Georgius Trapezuntius (1396-1474) settled in Italy in 1416, studying Latin with Guarino of Verona, and he translated numerous Greek texts as well as teaching Greek across Italy. This work of his is considered to be the first humanist handbook of rhetoric, and this copy shows careful study by an early reader.
