5 pages, various sizes, three letters on postcards, one showing a caricature of Reger at the piano, with an autograph envelope addressed to Dr Robert Hallgarten, Leipzig, 1907-1910 (?), filing holes and creasing to one letter

The letter of Clara Schumann referring to Schumann's fragile condition, dated 18 November 1844, is addressed to Dr. [Ernst] Carus, at whose home the young Clara had first met her future husband. At the end of 1844, Schumann's mental and physical state had reached, as John Daverio noted, 'its nadir'.
