T he present work was commissioned for Charles White's first book dedicated to his work: Images of Dignity, the Drawings of Charles White, published in 1967. Specifically, these three exquisite drawings were created for the catalogue's introductory essays written by actor and activist Harry Belefonte and art historians James Porter and Benjamin Horowitz. Illustrating his deep concern and love for humanity, these intimate portraits showcase White's mastery of his medium, even at a small scale.
