Does a great outfit start with the clothes or the jewels? On 11 July, Moda Operandi and Sotheby’s made the decision easy by pairing garments from Moda's exclusive boutique with gems from our Jewels Online: Part I sale. Guests were welcomed to Moda’s luxurious Upper East Side townhouse with cocktails, a trunk show of Marchesa’s Resort 2018 collection and an opportunity to try on more than half the glittering pieces from the online auction. Sotheby’s jewellery specialist Nikita Manilal spoke with Moda Operandi fashion writer Tatiana Hambro about the uniqueness and versatility of the jewels on offer. The most notable takeaways: do not be afraid to don jewels à la plage; the on-trend, off-the-shoulder top is the ultimate jewellery canvas; and pearls look even better when worn backwards.
