Sotheby’s Latin American Art achieved an exceptional performance this May within the Impressionist & Modern and Contemporary Art auctions, including the highest price paid at Sotheby’s for a work by Fernando Botero, a new overall auction record for Loló Soldevilla, and works by Rufino Tamayo, Jesús Rafael Soto, Joaquín Torres-García, Gego, Fernando Botero, Francisco Narváez, and Miguel Covarrubias which performed in excess of double their low estimates. With total sales exceeding $20,282,000, collectors from around the world bid competitively for 112 works of art and demonstrated a zealous appetite for paintings and sculpture from Latin America.
