Condition

Overall very good condition. The bench has been recently sensitively cleaned by a professional conservator. The patina throughout with some scattered areas of rubbing and discoloration consistent with age, gentle use, and exposure to the outdoors. The aging and weathering of the patina has imparted the bench with very nuanced coloration, ranging from cool blue-grey to warm rose gold, however the bench could be returned to its original uniform patina; please contact the department for a full repatination proposal from one of Sotheby’s preferred fine art conservators. The bronze surfaces throughout with scattered minor surface scratches, abrasions, and some minor traces of oxidation and white house paint consistent with age, gentle use, and exposure to the outdoors. The bronze with occasional minor casting flaws, not visually detractive and which promote the naturalism of the piece. All of the branches and welds appear stable and undisturbed. The proper left seat rail with a small area of corrosion measuring approximately 1/2 inch in diameter, not visually detractive. A beautifully, exceptionally complex masterwork by Claude Lalanne suitable for use both indoors and outdoors.
