Oil on canvas, unframed. The painting has been lined; the edges of the original canvas are visible at the extreme edges, and in some places - notably the upper right corner - they are beginning to lift from the lining canvas. The picture surface is in generally good condition aside from abrasions and losses at the extreme edges, especially in the lower left quadrant. A few drips of house paint (to the right of the little girl's pigtail). Stretcher bar marks. Repaired 1 inch tear in background above mother's head. Under UV light there is a green fluorescing varnish. There is one spot of inpaint in the mother's hair. Additional areas of inpaint behind the chair in the lower left quadrant . A few small dashes on retouching below the seat of the chair and additional dots and dashes in the front right leg of the chair. A spot of inpaint in the mother's proper left big toe and below her feet.
