Catalogue Note

Cava dei Tirreni, which lies inland from Vietri, was visited by Hackert several times during his trips along the Neapolitan coast, and when travelling south at different times in his life.  He visited the area first in February 1770 and we have a number of views of Cava and its surroundings from that period.  Hackert returned to the area in 1791, in the summer of 1792 and again in 1795.1
