Sotheby’s New York is pleased to offer an outstanding selection of vintage and modern timepieces in our upcoming Important Watches sale, taking place 5 December 2018. This season we are honored to offer timepieces from important modern collections. Our timepieces range from horologically complex to high jewelry watches from brands such as Patek Philippe, Rolex, Richard Mille, Breguet, Chopard, A. Lange & Söhne, and more.
Vintage highlights include an extremely rare Patek Philippe Yellow Gold Rectangular Wristwatch with an impressive 8 day power reserve from 1931. From our research, no more than a handful of these specialized 8-day movements were made, whose case and movement are confirmed by Patek Philippe’s Extract from the Archives. We are extremely excited to offer a very rare Rolex Stainless Steel Automatic Triple Calendar Wristwatch with Moon Phases, Padellone ref. 8171, with an exceptionally preserved original dial and case. Our Vintage collection is completed by an impressive selection of Rolexes, two triple complication open faced watches by Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet, a rare platinum Cartier Tank Cintrée, circa 1925, and high complicated, and rare desk timepieces from Vacheron Constantin and Cartier.
Modern wristwatches include visually stunning complicated tourbillon wristwatches such as A. Lange & Söhne’s Platinum Tourbillon Split Seconds Wristwatch with Power Reserve Indication with Chain & fusée, Tourbograph Pour Le Merite, circa 2005, and a Patek Philippe, Pink Gold Minute Repeating Tourbillon Wristwatch, ref. 3939, made in 2005. Our selection of modern timepieces are well preserved, and many complete with their box and papers.
