Sotheby's American Art sale on 23 May will present a superb group of paintings, sculpture and works on paper. Among the highlights is Milton Avery's The Seamstress, a striking work dating to a significant period in the artist’s career, when he began to embrace color as his primary means of expression. Also included is Norman Rockwell's The Little Model, an exceptional example of the artist's early aesthetic and technique that he painted for a 1919 cover of Collier's magazine.
We also offered two works by the celebrated female artists Georgia O’Keeffe and Mary Cassatt as part of Sotheby’s Impressionist & Modern Art Evening Sale on 14 May 2018. Georgia O’Keeffe’s Lake George with White Birchis an exceptional example of the artist’s engagement with natural subjects from the earliest years of her career. Also presented in the auction was A Goodnight Hugby Mary Cassatt, a beautiful representation of Cassatt’s mastery of the pastel medium that was one of 11 works she submitted to the Sixth Impressionist Exhibition in Paris in 1881.
