Sotheby's has the honour and privilege to present the fourth and final part of The Celebration of the English Watch, part four, 'George Daniels: 20th Century Innovator'. The sale represents a beautifully curated selection of watches from the finest makers of Britain’s illustrious horological history.
From 1665 there is a stunning astronomical watch by Benjamin Hill. Not only is the dial extremely attractive engraved with the astronomical indications and signs of the Zodiac but the outer case is also beautifully decorated with piqué work. Also included are some wonderful examples of miniaturisations of 18th century watches, the smallest with a diameter of just 21mm. In vast contrast to these there is a massive silver coach watch with repousse scene and alarm by Walter Partrige which measures an impressive 200mm.
The final masterpiece of the sale is a watch by George Daniels who is widely recognised as one of the most important watchmakers of his time and a true inspiration to the watch industry. The sale aims to demonstrate how master watchmakers have consistently pushed the boundaries of horology, refining timekeeping to the very best of their ability.
