The Arte Moderna e Contemporanea sale in Milan concluded with an outstanding total of €14.1 million and 95.3% of lots sold by value.
The auction was led by Lucio Fontana’s magnificent 1966 work Concetto Spaziale, which achieved €1,015,500. The ethereal and harmonious piece, comprising five slashes on grey, has never before appeared on the market.
The greatest names in Italian art were represented in the sales other key lots, with works from Piero Manzoni, Alberto Burri, Giorgio Morandi and Enrico Castellani achieving strong results, alongside two spectacular works from Joseph Albers, one red and one yellow. Auction records were also established for Fontana and Morandi’s Crocefissi and Teapot series.
