Modern & Post-War British art took centre stage in London this week with the evening and day sales bringing a combined total of £9,457,250 and a sell-through rate of 92%, the highest ever achieved for the category at Sotheby’s. The sale was led by a monumental sculpture by Barbara Hepworth, Parent I, which brought £3.8 million and set new auction records for artists including Christopher Wood and Alan Reynolds.
The strong results for Modern British art come just weeks after the Bowie/Collector sales shattered all expectations.
