Modern And Contemporary Asian Art – Evening Sale fetched a sale total of HK$670 million, setting eight auction records for works by Asian artists. Bidding on the selection of highly desirable works was truly global. Top lot of the sale – Zhang Xiaogang’s Bloodline: Big Family No. 3, which once again set a record for the artist, six years after it did so at Sotheby’s Hong Kong in 2008. Masterpiece by modern Indonesian artist S. Sudjojono set a record for Southeast Asian Art after lengthy competition from multiple bidders.
Continuing on from our 40th Anniversary that surged twelve world records in modern and contemporary Asian art, we welcome this Spring with a collection of exceptional artworks including Bloodline: The Big Family No.3 by Zhang Xiaogang, Potted Chrysanthemums by Sanyu, which will appear for the first time at auction and Morning Prayer by Chen Yifei. We will also bring to auction the debut of Chitaisei Honkōshin to Asia - one of the important works from post-war Japanese artist Kazuo Shiraga. Meanwhile Southeast Asian modern master Sudjana Kerton’s painting Village Life is celebrated for being one of the biggest sale work that is fresh to the market.
