Our 11 June auction of Important 20th Century Design achieved $4,476,376. Leading the sale was an iconic Tiffany Studios "Wisteria" table lamp, circa 1901-1905, that sold for $575,000, above the pre-sale estimate. Also performing strongly was an important and rare four-piece coffee service designed by Paul Lobel, which realised $377,000.
On 11 June, Sotheby’s presents Important 20th Design featuring masterworks of decorative art and design spanning the last hundred years. We are honored to open the auction with an outstanding collection of American Art Glass by Tiffany Studios and Steuben Glass Works from the Estate of Dr. Edward and Helen McConnell. The collection showcases many rare and extraordinary examples displaying the range of decorative techniques by both firms. Also on offer is a highly curated selection of Tiffany leaded glass lamps, including an illustrious “Wisteria” Table Lamp. Among other notable offerings are a modernist four-panel screen by Eileen Gray and other rare and iconic works by American designers Paul Lobel, Donald Deskey, Harry Bertoia, George Nakashima and Donald Judd.
