Sotheby's sale of British & Irish Art brought £6,687,875 ($10,493,945), led by Dante Gabriel Rossetti's watercolour painting Venus Verticordia, which soared above its estimate of £1-1.5 million to bring £2,882,500 ($4,522,931), the highest price for a watercolour by the artist at auction.
We are delighted to announce our forthcoming sale of British & Irish Art and share with you some of our highlights. On 10 December 2014 we will offer paintings, drawings and watercolours by a wide selection of artists from the British Isles, including fine examples of the work of Pre-Raphaelites and the Classical Revival, British Impressionists, Colourists, Ruralists and Contemporary Scottish and Irish art. The sale will feature Dante Gabriel Rossetti’s watercolour, Venus Verticordia, which has not been seen at auction since 1886. We hope you can join us at one of our previews for the sale.
