Our November 6th auction of 19th Century European Art achieved 14,616,500 USD. Highlighting the sale was Sir Alfred James Munnings's Marjory which sold for 2,225,000 USD, well above its estimate of 1,000,000 to 1,500,000 USD. Also performing strongly, William Bouguereau's Biblis sold for 1,025,000 USD, also above the high estimate.

Sotheby’s November 6th auction of 19th Century European Art in New York brings together the very best examples by celebrated artists from this diverse collecting category. Highlights include discoveries such as Franz von Stuck’s iconic symbolist masterpiece Die Sünde, as well as important Orientalist subjects by Ludwig Deutsch and Frederick Arthur Bridgman, and major paintings by Jean Baptiste Camille Corot, Federico Zandomeneghi, Joaquín Sorolla, William Bouguereau and Jean Leon Gérôme, among others. A period life-sized Mannequin Articulé will also be offered, providing insight into the process of creation in a 19th century artist’s studio.
