Sotheby's Contemporary Art Evening auction achieved $380,642,000, led by Andy Warhol's Silver Car Crash (Double Disaster) from 1963 which sold for $105 million.
Cy Twombly's Poems to the Sea achieved $21,669,000, setting a new record for a work by Cy Twombly at auction and leading a group of property sold to benefit Dia Art Foundation.
The auction saw an outstanding sell through rate of 89% with 87% of sold works achieving prices at or above their estimates.

OVERVIEW
On 13 November the Contemporary Art Evening Auction in New York will present one of the most remarkable paintings of the Post-War era: Andy Warhol’s Silver Car Crash (Double Disaster) from 1963, a monumental testament to History Painting in the 20th century. This masterpiece is complemented by other historic examples of Pop Art by Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein, as well as Abstract Expressionist works by Willem de Kooning and Clyfford Still. A selection of works by Cy Twombly, Barnett Newman and John Chamberlain from the highly celebrated Dia Art Foundation will be perfectly accompanied by works by Donald Judd, Brice Marden, Agnes Martin and Frank Stella. Superb examples of more recent decades include works by Jean-Michel Basquiat, Maurizio Cattelan, Martin Kippenberger, Gerhard Richter and Rudolf Stingel.
RESULTS
The 13 November auction of Contemporary Art in New York achieved $380,642,000. Andy Warhol’s Silver Car Crash (Double Disaster) from 1963 sold for $105.4 million, beating the previous artist record of $71 million which was also from Warhol’s Disaster Series of car crashes. Several works sold to benefit the Dia Art Foundation’s fund for future acquisitions totaled $38.4 million, highlighted by Cy Twombly’s Poems to the Sea, which sold for $21.7 million. In all, the sale saw seven artist's records set.
