A PRINCELY TABLE GARNITURE WITH THE ARMS OF THE PRINCES OF SALM-SALM
Heinrich Friedeberg (1819-1885) was born in St Petersburg, and was the son of jeweler Samuel Friedeberg. He went to Berlin for his apprenticeship, became court jeweller to the Prussian Court in 1848 and founded the S. Friedeberg Söhne Company with his brother Wilhelm in 1850. In 1867, he was appointed Court jeweller to the Tsar of Russia. See a set of four table stands by Friedeberg but smaller than the present table garniture was sold Sotheby's London on 23 January 2014, lot 112 (height 28 cm; 6 642 g) ; and a decoration of the Order of the Red Eagle, which was sold Sotheby's Amsterdam on 27 March 2007, lot 1463.
