each with a domed cover with berried foliate finial above a pierced neck cast with foliate garland and ribbon, above a tapering body, with scrolled handles cast with a female mask adorned with vine leaves, on a trumpet foot and leaf cast square base, the porcelain with sprays of pink roses in gilt framed medallions, on a bleu céleste ground; (one vase broken and one cover restored)

The present pair of covered vases are very similar to a pair which were part of the Madame Djahanguir Riahi Collection, sold Sotheby's, Paris, July 6, 2017, lot 95 and possibly made at the same workshop. They boast the same frieze with interlacing foliate garlands, the handles with a mask, albeit satyr masks and green ground, instead of female masks and a blue céleste ground as in the present pair. These vases can also be compared with several other pairs with bleu céleste grounds, including those sold by Sotheby's New York, The Keck Collection, December 5 and 6, 1991, lot 225 and those illustrated by Svend Eriksen in his book Early neo-classicism in France and from the collection of Madame Jules Friborg, as well as a pair from collection of Eric von Goldschmidt-Rothschild (sale in Berlin, March 23, 1931, lot 206).
