A RARE MEISSEN POURING BOWL AND COVER
CIRCA 1731-36
molded with a foliate spout and knopped, faceted handle to one side, painted in underglaze-blue with the 'Onion Pattern,' crossed swords mark in underglaze-blue, incised Dreher's mark for Johann Christian Dietrich.  Very minor shallow chip to knop rim and restored chip to spout.

The Weißdreher Johann Christian Deitrich (1698-1757) was active at the Meissen manufactory from 1731 to at least 1736 - see Rainer Rückert, Meissener Porzellan 1710-1810, p. 76.  Another example of this wöchnerrinenterrine form is illustrated by Bernhard von Barsewisch, "Unterglasurblaue Malerei," in Keramos, 121/1988, ill.30.
