In 1958 I spent four months in Japan where I had the privilege of spending time with Professor Kenzō Tange, who also won the Pritzker in 1987, and Mr. Sori Yanagi.
Yanagi, I thought was one of the most reserved artists and industrial designers. In his studio I was fascinated by his butterfly plywood stools. How graceful and simple they were. They remind us of the true essence of design. I purchased four stools and used them often.
