A pair of Italian giltwood console tables, Piedmontese

second quarter 18th century

with later painted faux marble tops, the pierced friezes decorated with flowers and foliage, the cabriole legs joined by a shaped stretcher  
each 87cm. high, 133cm. wide, 70cm. deep; 2ft. 10¼in., 4ft. 2½in., 2ft. 3½in.

The form of the present tables relates to a design for a console table by Giovanni Pietro Baroni di Taviliano in the National Library Turin, (see fig.1)and a group of tables in the Palazzo Reale, Turin, one of which is based on this drawing. For comparison see Enrico Colle, Il Mobile Rococo in Italia, Arredi e Decorazioni d`Interni dal 1738 al 1775, pp. 456, 462 and 463.
