The present group can be compared with a stone pietà group in the Musée des Augustins, Toulouse, with the Virgin and St John supporting Christ's body. The heavy folds of drapery and the bulky headdress of the Virgin are echoed in the present group, as is the Virgin's cloak falling from high on the back of the headress. The Musée des Augustins group is dated to the late 15th or early 16th Century.
