First edition of Theodore de Beze's Latin translation of the New Testament. The text is set out with the Vulgate in the center of each page, the new Latin translation in smaller type to the side, and the commentary (with alternate readings) underneath. Beze's translation, a Protestant version by a leading French humanist and biblical scholar and a close ally of Calvin, is of considerable importance, and, like the Marot-Beze Psalms, enjoyed a long life.

The Vulgate text of the Old Testament is accompanied by the Latin translation (based on the Hebrew) of the Dominican Sante Pagnini (1470–1536), first printed in 1528. The illustrations were first used in Estienne's 1540 Bible.
