An unusual memento from Churchill's return to Britain following his first meeting with Roosevelt after the Americans entered the war. It was at the Arcadia conference that Churchill obtained Roosevelt's agreement that the Allies's principal focus should be the defeat of Nazi Germany, rather than Japan. The VIPs found various ways to entertain themselves during their trip home in the Berwick: the Chief of the Air Staff outwitted the First Sea Lord at card tricks, while the Prime Minister took the pilot's seat and controlled the plane for about twenty minutes, trying his hand at "a couple of gently banked turns".
