This dynamic figure of the Archangel St Michael compares closely with crèche figures by the 18th-century Neapolitan sculptor Salvatore di Franco in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Compare, for example, with the seated Virgin in the Metropolitan's crèche group (inv. no. 64.164.1a.b); note the same narrowed almond-shaped eyes and broad face.
