The archives of the Menus Plaisirs show that almost every year the Mesdames ordered at least one and sometimes several morocco leather coffers which whey they were considered too shabby, were passed on the members of their suite - see P. Verlet, Recherches sur quelques coffres en usage à la cour de France à propos de deux coffres du Musée de Lisbonne, Joao Couto, in memoriam, Lisbon, 1971, p. 241.
Pierre Vente (born 1722) became book-binder to the Menus Plaisirs du Roi in 1753, having previously been under the protection of the Maréchal de Richelieu. He was still recorded working as late as 1792.
Some other caskets signed by Vente are kept in the Louvre or in the Carnavalet museum.
