The British Special Air Service (SAS) was founded in 1941 as a Special Operations division of the British Army and has remained one of the most respected military organizations in the world. In spite of its absolute secrecy, the unit is rumoured to employ 500 active soldiers and is renowned for its extreme recruitment and training methods. This Rolex Explorer II reference 216570 was part of a limited edition exclusively available to members of the SAS regiment in 2012. This Explorer II SAS edition is a fantastic illustration of the long-lasting relationship between Rolex and the military forces, making it an extremely desirable watch.

The present lot is part of that special series and has been preserved in like-new, unworn condition, retaining its original protective stickers. On the side of the case, the motto of the SAS, ‘Who Dares Wins’ is engraved. Furthermore, the case back is decorated with the SAS logo (a dagger with wings) and a personalised serial number bearing the original owner's initials.
