Condition
The movement is in working condition at the time of cataloguing. The chronograph function is working properly. The bezel and band with signs of wear throughout. The case back with signs of wear particularly toward the center due to the bracelet. The bracelet with surface wear throughout and minor surface scratches at places, otherwise the watch is in a very original condition with no signs of polishing. Please note that the movement has not been tested for the accuracy of time and may need a service at the buyer's expense. Sotheby's does not guarantee the future working of the movement and we do not guarantee the authenticity of any individual component parts since subsequent repairs and restoration work may have resulted in the replacement of original parts. You are advised that watch straps or bands made of materials derived from endangered or otherwise protected species (i.e. alligator or crocodile) are not sold with the watch and we reserve the right to remove these straps or bands prior to shipping. Being the representations of the new era for the Rolex Daytona model, the 116520 is the first model from Rolex to feature a completely new in-house movement.
Although the present model is very similar to it's predecessor 16520 in appearances, the biggest differences between the two would be moving the seconds indicator from 9 o’clock to 6 o’clock and aligning the hour register with the 30-minute register.
