描述

  • A garland of grapes with butterflies and a pair of goldfinches
  • Oil on canvas
  • 91,7 x 73 cm; 36 by 28 3/4  in.

Condition

The actual painting is less dark in tone than the catalogue illustration would suggest. The canvas has been relined (glue). The painted surface seems to be in a good condition, with major damages seemingly apparent. It is covered with a strong craquelure pattern. Strengthening can be seen in the dark areas around the grapes, and some rather crude discolored retouchings can be observed, especially around the edges. Under UV The varnish layer fluoresces in parts, of seemingly different fluorescence; it may have been partially cleaned with areas of older varnish in between. The retouchings and strengthening mentioned above are visible as well. Offered with a carved and giltwood frame.
