The actual painting is lighter in tone than the catalogue illustration would suggest. The panel has been cradled. The painted surface is in a reasonable condition and shows tendency towards dryness and flaking along its horizontal wood grain. Along the horizontal grain areas of minor lifting of retouchings can be seen; these should be stabilized. Discoloured retouchings can be throughout, in the figures and landscape, some of which are rather crudely done. Thinness can be observed throughout. The painting would benefit from a thorough restoration. Under the UV light A larger part of the varnish layer fluoresces, showing substantial retouchings to the horizontal grain throughout. Offered with a carved and giltwood frame.
