Condition

Good overall condition. The painting is dirty and would benefit from a light cleaning. A pattern of craquelures is visible on the sofa. Traces of rubbing with the frame, on the top and on the bottom. Under UV light : some of the craquelures may have been filled. A number of small spots (probably dirt) scattered on the surface.

拍品資料及來源

Executed around 1876, this small panel could represent Nina de Callias (or de Villard). Born Anne-Marie Gaillard (1843-1884), she married Count Hector de Callias, a writer and journalist at Le Figaro. A writer and poet herself, she hosted one of the most brilliant literary and artistic Salon in Paris. She inspired some of Charles Cros's poems in Le coffret de santal, published in 1873. It was also in 1873 that Edouard Manet immortalized her in his famous painting La dame aux éventails, which depicts her lying on a couch (Musée d'Orsay, Paris). We would like to thank Mrs Florence Valdès-Forain who confirmed the authenticity of this painting. A certificate can be delivered upon request by Mrs Valdès-Forain.
