拍品資料及來源

From 1905-1906 Lucien Lévy-Dhurmer, an avid music lover, created a series of works that attempted to convey all the emotion that music aroused in him. These musical evocations constitute a rare cycle of exploration into correlations and artistic equivalences between music and painting. Although these transpositions principally concern the work of Beethoven (see the note of the lot 191), they also include other musicians and their works, for example Debussy and Gabriel Fauré.The present work, featuring Beethoven, expresses all the power and tension of a genius at the moment of creation. The composer, holding a quill pen, is searching within himself for the inspiration. His forehead glows with light while his hair, wreathing his face, blends into the background of vibrant, spiralling paint strokes, shot through with bursts of light, symbolising the brilliant composer's intense creative energy.
