Condition
To the naked eye: - Lute: The painting seems to be in a good overall condition. It has been relined and partially cleaned. There is a thick yellow varnish. Restorations are visible in the ribbons and in the background, especially along the frame. - Guitar: The painting seems to be in a good overall condition. It has been relined. A thick varnish, partially cleaned, conceals the older restorations. Under UV light: A thick varnish conceals the older restorations.

Traditionally attributed to Leriche, a painter active between 1770-1790 as painter of the buildings belonging to Queen Marie Antoinette at Versailles and probably also at the Manufacture de Sèvres.
